This summer, we have been fairly "lax" around here. All my kids are able to pour a bowl of healthy cereal with milk (maybe with the help of an older sibling). My oldest can even do waffles in the toaster quite well.
However, I know breakfast is an important part of my "active" kid's day so it's important that I keep with a routine that supports their energy. My kids usually eat together and we try to include a fruit, dairy and some type of cereal. Summer time is such a great time to add fresh fruits. The choices are endless. We have started to "visit" the local farmer's market more often.
Kellogg has a great variety of healthy cereals that taste great but healthy too! My kids are becoming more adventurous...so sometimes yogurt (instead of milk) sprinkled with their favorite cereal is the perfect breakfast.

I love yogurt and granola, or Cereal and fruit. Both are yummy!
ReplyDeleteS~
ReplyDeletebreakfast has always been an important part of my life..
still is.
I have a cup of coffee first as I'm getting hubs breakfast ready and sending him off to work...
I enjoy my cereal (Sugar Frosted Flakes) with 2% milk ..
accompanied either by a banana , strawberries, or a fresh peach.
some mornings, I am only in a melon mood..
or a grapefruit mood..
but my basics are fruit, cereal, milk..
on weekends, a more leisurely brunch of eggs, bacon/sausage, grits/potatoes..
and the fruit juice and milk.
in the winter, hot oatmeal is often my choice for weekday mornings....
my entire meal planning revolves around plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables...
both which are so very plentiful and economical in the summer.
we do not eat a lot of breads..
and our choices of meat are chicken, fish, pork and beef..
all sparingly..
and broiled..never fried.
or stewed in Crockpot for one dish meals..
very healthy..
breakfast sets the tone for our busy day..
warm sandy hugs..
Loui♥
I love having key lime yogurt with fresh raspberries or strawberries and granola, or a high-fiber cereal.
ReplyDeleteWe have two children. My daughter is very much of a routine type of person. First thing she does when she wakes up is get her own breakfast of cereal. Our son isn't so decisive. It depends on his mood. It could be cereal, bagel or oatmeal... depends on his mood that day. If they are lucky, I'll make them a fruit smoothly.
ReplyDeleteI like granola bars or yogurt for breakfast because they're quick to grab. If I had more time, I would make scrambled eggs.
ReplyDeletemami2jcn at gmail dot com
My breakfast consists of 1/2 grapefruit (pink only please) and a bowl of cereal -- usually Special K, but sometimes Cheerios! YUM!! Let's don't forget a cup of hot tea --except when it is as hot as it has been lately, then I switch to ice water.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Saturday is our "special" day for bacon, sausage and pancakes. The rest of the week we love cereal, yogurt or toast with all-fruit jam. If I get up the nerve, I like to throw in a batch of blueberry muffins or homemade donuts. Oh, and always a coffee!
ReplyDeleteI hope I can win even if I don't eat cereal for breakfast!
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids were home, we had cereal for breakfast every morning: It's easy, nutritious, and you add your milk for calcium, drop in some fruit slices for extra POW and antioxidants. AND it tastes good.
But, now that I've had to reduce my milk intake, cereal just doesn't work for me. I still buy it though for when the grandkids come over...and I snack on it.
I try to stay away from dairy so i drink rice milk with some type of rice cereal. The girls eat rice krispies or rice chex with regular milk. Once a week i will make Mickey mouse shaped pancakes for them. They love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd always some fresh fruit.

Right when I come downstairs, I turn on the coffee pot! Then I get the kiddos their breakfast and drinks, then feed the dog. Once everyone is "settled" by the TV, I look for my own breakfast. Sometimes it's cereal, or a protein bar, or oatmeal. It all depends on what mood I'm in and how much time I have! :)

Not much of a breakfast person but fresh fruit works!
ReplyDeleteafko@mac.com
I always eat a bagel with cream cheese. My daughter always has a bowl of cereal. We got all out around here! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe have been really busy in the mornings the past few weeks, so it has been dry cereal in ziploc bags with a juicebox, and the kids eat in the car. I have lots of trash under the seats to prove it. It is sad but true. Hey, you do what you gotta do sometimes!
ReplyDeletewellgrounded@fuse.net
I eat a Morning Star Farms sausage with an english muffin for breakfast. Or, if I am being lazy and tired, I will fix a bowl of cereal!

ReplyDeletemy breakfast routine is a protein shake. if i remember to drink it. or else nothing. ann claire eats nothing except milk, and henry, it's usually cereal. sometimes on the w/e i make a big breakfast, eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, toast, etc. i'm not a morning person, as you well know, and i hate to cook, so ... not a big breakfast maker.
ReplyDeleteIt's a rush out the door kinda thing!
ReplyDeleteWe start back to school tomorrow and our race will begin once again.
Fast stuff is our best choice.
Poptarts, coffee drinks, bagels and breakfast bars.
breakfast is so important, but we're always rushed. the girls eat in the car during our 45-60 minute commute to school. i eat at work. i try to make nutritious breakfasts with a little fruit, protein and carbs, but it's hard when you are strapped for time. i also make our lunches, then wake them up and rush us out the door.

Breakfast for me is plain oatmeal w/half a cup of vanilla yogurt stirred in. For everyone else it's a fend for yourself meal. Usually cereal, breakfast bars, fruit, frozen waffles, and eggs are available.
ReplyDeleteBreakfast is one of my favorite meals, so I always try to make time for it. I usually have a caffe latte and maybe some Kellogs Special K cereal with soymilk.

Our breakfast routine:
ReplyDeleteMe: Must. Have. Coffee. I mean, coffee with my creamer.
Then -and only then, I can think about food-
Cereal is the easiest for us.
We eat so much cereal: For breakfast, for school snacks, before bed snacks.
Two of my boys only eat it dry with a glass of milk on the side.
One likes to pour the milk as he eats, so he is pouring cereal and milk all breakfast long.
Generally, we stick to bran flakes. If we are living on the edge, we add raisins. I know-crazy.
On the weekends we might do a sugared cereal, but on school days-it is bran, baby!

I cook a hot breakfast at least 4 days out of the week and we have cereal/yogurt on the other days (my kids don't like milk in their cereal). I freeze leftover pancakes, and I often make a big bunch of muffins to freeze. I defrost them overnight and we have them with smoothies the next morning. Having a menu has been helpful.
ReplyDeleteI usually just grab a coffee and english muffin in the morning, but I love to take itoutside in the garden:>) Thanks for the chance at a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy breakfast routine always starts with a smoothie: plain yogurt, 1/4 cup oatmeal, half a banana, juice of choice (usually orange) and whatever other fruit is on hand - strawberries, blueberries & peaches these days. As well, at least 3-4 mornings a week, I eat oatmeal. Keeping my cholesterol down!!
ReplyDeleteI love making pancakes on saturday mornings for our family of 6. It feels so good to all be able to enjoy a yummy meal together:)

We are a grab what's available kind of family, typically ceral. As a homeschool Mommy I always had grand plans of homemade meals three time a day, but the reality is that isn't possible for our family and that's okay.:)
ReplyDeleteI always get up and eat peanut butter toast and drink a Diet Pepsi right away.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I usually have a 1/2 a bagel each morning. I like it with jam and milk, while my hubby likes it with cream cheese and coffee. On the weekends, we enjoy Frosted Flakes.
ReplyDeletehsuperparents[at]gmail[dot]com
For this commuter, yogurt, fruit or PB&J are my favorites!
ReplyDeleteMy family is just the two of us ... my hubby and myself. So our morning routine is to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy our backyard for a few minutes before starting our day (we work from home). And that's about it. We don't typically eat breakfast but sometimes on a weekend we make a brunch ... that's a lot of fun and relaxing when we have the time.

I'm usually a yogurt or fruit kind of gal. Or pancakes, but only if mimosas are involved ;)
ReplyDeleteI work nights. Everyone has to help themselves at breakfast time, while I sleep :) Cereal and toast are go to favorites.
ReplyDeleteBreakfast can be complicated when you have two children who want pancakes and eggs and two who don't want to see food until 10:00. I have found that on Saturdays when I make a big family breakfast, I cook extra pancakes and freeze them. They can be rewarmed in the microwave for my breakfast eaters quite nicely. For the none eaters, I demand cereal, yogurt, or a cheese stick be eaten before school.
ReplyDeleteI had never been much of a breakfast person as a child. I typically liked the sweet stuff...Pop Tarts, Toaster Strudles and of coarse my all time favorite was/is donuts BUT now that father time is hammering in my life, I must choose healthier alternatives. I like granola bars (my fav is the Nature Valley Oats 'N Honey), granola cereal, protein drink, or oatmeal (winter). Of coarse my boys like scrambled eggs with cheese, pancankes and waffles (not the frozen kind). I discovered this past year how yummy chocolate chips are in my pancakes :) If the boys do not get any of the above, they will eat their favorite cereals. I honestly never felt any more "fueled up" on the days where I ate breakfast and did not eat breakfast. Now I must eat breakfast to keep my stomach from interrupting my work life :)
ReplyDeleteBreakfast is help-yourself around here. The cereal is in a low cupboard so even the little kids can reach it.
ReplyDeleteAnother suggestion is to make a big egg and cheese omelet and save the leftovers to warm up for the next few days.

I work 2nd shift as a police dispatcher so I sometimes don't go to bed until 3am. Needless to say, mornings consist of my husband calling from work (he leaves for work at 4am) and yelling into the answering machine to wake me up so I can get our daughter up and going for school (many days, multiple yelling calls into the answering machine before I pick up)...then I sit on the couch in a stupor until she leaves...it's cereal all the way for breakfast because if I try to use the stove, I'd set the house on fire, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI have a huge pet peeve about eating before school..if she skips breakfast I feel like the world's worst mommy so there's a lot of me yelling to "EAT SOMETHING" in the morning as she's trying to get ready. Even a granola bar eases my mom-guilt.

Our typical morning routine is that I wake up first with the baby and make her and me oatmeal. THen our two older daughters wake up and make themselves Eggos and later my son and husband wake up last and have bowls of cereal. We never eat breakfast together but we always eat dinner as a family.

Ours is pretty simple.... My boys...one prefers cold cereal or pop-tarts and the other is not a morning eater, for me it's coffee.

My son’s typical breatfast is yogurt, fruit and a poptart, or McDonald’s. My morning breakast is 2 sausage and egg burritos from McDonald’s every morning, and about 4-5 cups of coffee :)
ReplyDeleteOn the weekends, if he’s home I may make breakfast (pancakes or omlettes) or we’ll go out for brunch @ Cracker Barrel :)

ReplyDeleteOur weekday mornings are pretty choreographed (wake up shower and get dressed,
ReplyDeleteopen the house start fixing breakfast, wake my kids up, they get dressed and we
all gather at the table to eat and then begin our activites for the day) because
I run a home daycare their favorite staple is cinnamon toast, cereal and fruit.
On the weekend its WHATEVER aka chaos!:)

We definitely do coffee and then some cereal and juice
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a breakfast eater, but hubby is a dedicated cereal man. He'll burn through several bowls while I'm getting ready for work. Thanks for the great giveaway!!!

We have cereal everyday! That is basically our routine. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!!!!
ReplyDeleteI need to get a morning routine! I always say that I am going to make myself breakfast in the morning, but I usually don’t feel hungry by the time I leave my house. But that is a big mistake because I start feeling hungry on my one hour drive to work so I end up stopping at a fast food place for some greasy foods that my body really doesn’t need. I need to be more prepared and pack a healthy breakfast that I can eat in the car on my way to work.
