"The Breakfast Squeeze"-Week 4

Congrats to Rhoda who won my $100.00 giveaway this week!

This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kelloggs.

I would love to admit that I never feel a "squeeze" in the morning. However, I would be lying and my nose would be growing because I have more than I want to admit! This year, I have three kids to get ready for in the morning and it's not as easy as "two". Sometimes I just CAN'T make breakfast because I am too busy looking for the homework sheet I forgot to sign. But, I do think it is an important part of my kid's day and I need to be diligent in providing a healthy, well -balanced breakfast.

My family has a variety of foods we like to eat in the morning from scrambled eggs to pancakes to a bowl of cereal. Cereal is a great way to start down the road of independence. It is easy peasy to begin to train your elementary kids to get a bowl, spoon, milk and pour cereal. It is the one breakfast that they can do and with confidence and independence. This also helps eliminate the "stress" on those crazy mornings!

My favorite go-to breakfast when mornings are crazy, unorganized and we can't find the gym clothes is CEREAL. My kids love to eat cereal (Fruit Loops is a great one!) in little ziploc bags in the car. They don't even need milk but sometimes we put it in a cup to drink. It's the perfect and quick way to give them a breakfast when "life" will not let you sit down! I always keep snack baggies in the drawer and we fill them with cereal to eat in the car. It's funny we always seem to be "hurrying" on Sundays for church. Cereal in a bag is almost a "staple" on Sunday mornings.

No matter how organized you are or how well planned you seem to be....All of us need a go-to breakfast because you just can't avoid it sometimes. Cereal is the perfect go-to solution for my kids and me!

What do you do for breakfast when you are in a hurry?

  1. Cereal and yogurt is the go-to. If we're on the run (like to the airport at o'dark-thirty), then we do the same as you- a bag of cereal and a banana and a drink box of milk.

  2. I try to buy at least one cereal that can be eaten dry (i.e. Cheerio's, Frosted Wheats, etc) and taken on the road. Bananas are terrific because they don't have to be washed first, and instant grits or oatmeal are great because I can have them in the office with hot water out of the water cooler!

  3. If I'm in a big hurry, I grab a granola bar.

  4. We also do the cereal in a bag. My kids often take it to church. Sunday mornings always seem to be our "squeeze" morning.

  17. For ME it is a rice cake (cinny or caramel) with creamy pnut butter and banana slices. I have blood sugar AND gluten issues so I know to make sure I get protein AND carbs. I do try to make sure the kids get the same. 3 kids (of 6) still at home with various preferences, but we always have cereal, pop tarts, granola bars, and USUALLY waffles for quick breakfast on the fly. My kids even spread peanut butter on waffles and fold for a quick on the run meal. BUT I do make them slam some milk before heading out...for protein and calcium!(and because I am from Wisconsin, I grew up on a farm and because I AM the mom and I SAY so! LOL!)

    thanks much!
