Congrats to Darcy...this week's winner!

It's hard to believe that we are in our second week of school. Summer almost seems like a fading "memory" that happened a long time ago. My kids and I had a great summer from swimming to going up north to their grandparent's cottage. Eating breakfast on the deck of my parent's cottage listening to the waves and feeling the cool morning air.
However, I think I will remember the little things we did each day like swimming, running around the backyard, eating popsicles till they drip, water balloons...simple but makes summer vacation so special.
This summer, we even did the drive-in! It was like going back to the 50's and it really didn't matter what movie we watched. The kids loved the glow in the dark necklaces, smell of bug spray and eating popcorn outside. This may have been the best of the best!
Another thing I love about our summers is that "life" just slows down. Even breakfast is more relaxed. My kids loved taking their bowl of cereal and eating outside at the table. Of course, it was exciting to drop a few Cocoa Krispies on the cement because the ants came running!

Mmm- hard one because we had a lot of fun times (even had ice cream at Young's with the kids!)! I think swimming in the lake at my in-laws was the best- the kids were just so free to be kids outside, the weather was perfect, and we were in our own country!
ReplyDeleteThis summer was a little different for me as I am working full time and in law school too. So my "summer break" consisted of weekends...which still consisted of homework. But we made it fun, and my husband and I got some quality beach time (perk of living on the Gulf Coast), sporting events, and concerts in :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory of the summer was taking our kids to their first baseball game. My husband's boss got a sky box at the park, so we had all we could eat, super seats, and even prizes for all the kiddos. I wasn't sure my daughter would like baseball, but she sat through the entire game glued to the action! And to say my 6 year old son loved it is putting it mildly! He was in his glory! It was bar-none the best time we had all summer!
ReplyDeleteOh, I have so many, but simple as it may be, I'd have to say the numerous times my girls and I drove over to Mayfield Dairy Farms for some of the BEST ice cream cones anywhere! Good times!
ReplyDeleteWarm Sunday mornings with loved ones in the back yard with bees buzzing around the rose bushes and table piled high with blueberry pancakes, ripe strawberries and fresh squeezed orange juice.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing we did this summer was our road trip to Santa Cruz. When we go on vacation we usually go as a family, but this short trip we went with friends. We had a blast with good company and got to see the beautiful California coast. Couldn't ask for more!
ReplyDeleteThe hightlight of my summer was kayaking among the migrating shorebirds in Cape Breton. They didn't mind my presence at all. I was able to sit quietly among them when my boat beached on their sandbar and get lots of beautiful photographs. ~karen
ReplyDeleteI had 2 things that were memorable this summer. My daughter participated in her first triathalon and I went with her. It was a wonderful weekend in Traverse City with my oh so grown up (22yo) daughter. The second thing was a few days away with my hubby in the heart of Amish country (Berlin Ohio) just the 2 of us. Great giveaway!

I was able to enjoy the great weather with my 9 month old twin girls! WE found out they LOVE the water and spent as much time as possible in the pool and the lake! They looked adorable in their matching swimsuits and floaties..I could not ask for a better summer as a first time mom!
ReplyDeleteThe best has been outside in our backyard, the kids swim in the kiddie pool while I read a book, no where to go, no errands to run, just relaxation!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love summer-I love how we 'migrate' to our summer cottage-I love waking up slowly, no rushing; I love going to the beach, reading a million books; I love a leisurely cup of coffee in the morning listening to the birds, and the waves.
ReplyDeleteI think I appreciate summer even more now that I am working again..
Taking the kids to Carolina Beach was the best thing this summer, because we haven't been to the beach in 4 years, and they loved it

Favorite memory had to be our day on Mackinac Island. We were visiting friends in northern MI and hadn't really planned on this day trip. We decided to be spontaneous and add 1 more day to our trip. We rented bikes and did the 8 mile loop around the island. I felt like I was watching my 8 year old and 6 year old grow up in front of me as they navigated the crowds and peddled so independently. It was a beatiful day and such a fun family memory!
ReplyDeleteWith 7 children, there was much going on in our home this summer. My favorite memories is watching the kids play together regardless of what they were doing. The friendships that they develop amongst each other are ones that will continue into their adult life. As they play, laugh and yes even fight, they are building the ties that will keep them close in days to come.
ReplyDeleteWe took our kiddos to the beach, where they had a great time finding seashells and sand dollars.

The state fair, meteor watching, park fountains, sending the kids to spend the night at the houses of others, Smores in the backyard, etc...

Camping and hiking with my friends and dogs!
ReplyDeleteWell....we accidentally stole a golf cart at the campground park we were staying at.
ReplyDeleteYes, that sounds crazy!
Not only did we not have permission to drive it (my FIL was a camp host) we got it stuck at the bottom of a huge hill and had to PUSH IT BACK UP!!
It was horrible & hot! We couldn't stop laughing!!
Our family trip to Myrtle Beach was the highlight of our summer.

ReplyDeleteThe time spent every few days to 'document' out summer was the most memorable. It was fun to hear them decide what to write and draw.
