Making Breakfast "FuN" on the weekends

Congrats to Loui---this week's winner!

This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kelloggs.

Our weekend mornings are a bit different around here. I guess you could say that we break the "rules" of healthy eating and pull out the donuts. We love to go to our local donut man down the street. He is only open in the morning and has a large variety of pastries and donuts. My kids love to pick the ones with all the icing and the ones with the most sprinkles! It 's a bit of a tradition and it makes our weekend mornings a bit different from the "week".

Of course, after leaving the donut man's shop, I have to make a quick stop to get a hot
latte and usually vanilla milk for the kids.

Saturday mornings= Lattes for me!

We have also been known around here to throw in some chocolate chips in the pancakes on weekends and make funny faces with the batter on the grill(sprinkles make pancakes special too!). All these special little treats make our weekend mornings fun and different.

But, if I had my way every weekend, I would go out for breakfast. It's one of my favorite meals to eat out. We do not do it very often unless we have a soccer game or something special but it's always a delight when we do! I just love anyone's coffee but mine. My coffee that I make at home just isn't the same "out"....I feel that way about pancakes too!

What is something different you do on the weekends with your family?

  1. Weekends are different..
we sleep in until around 9a.m...
(a luxury for hubs the physician!)
up, have coffee and read the paper, and chat..
he works on charts,I check e-mail..
    around 11, we have a breakfast/brunch..
    complete with juice,
    1/2 grapefruit
    2 eggs each,bacon or sausage,
    grits or hash-browns
    toast and jam/marmalade.
I have milk, he has juice
I like to put the drinks in the freezer while cooking breakfast. served from the freezer, the drinks are slightly frozen, more like a slurpee.. delicious!
    afterwards..
we do whatever we have on the agenda.
the breakfast keeps us energized until dinner time!
Sometimes we go out for breakfast..
but I truly enjoy our weekend breakfasts at home..just the two of us, having REAL conversation..with no external interruptions..
other than the felines quietly staring, hoping for a dropped tidbit!
    warmest hugs..
    Loui♥

  3. We make breakfast burritos on Saturday mornings- love them! If it's a holiday, I make pancakes in different shapes (trees, gingerbread men, pumpkins, flowers, etc.) and decorate with candies.

  4. We have rituals for each day! On Saturday, we normally go to a small Cuban bakery and restaurant that has been in business for years and years and years and get Cuban Toast and Cafe con Leches. If you have never had one, visit FL and find the shadiest, oldest looking Cuban restaurant you can find - they always have the best.
On Sunday, my husband makes his award-winning pancakes - just like grandma's :) And IF we have already had a workout in, we add chocolate chips to a couple before church :)

  5. Saturday evenings we have a picnic on our living room floor for dinner and then watch a movie. My husband and I have been doing this since we were first married.

  6. We enjoy sleeping in later than normal, then we, usually, go out for lunch as a family. Spending time together is what counts!

  7. I usually work night shift on the weekends (I'm a nurse), so breakfast on those days is definitely special, in that I don't have to cook it or clean it :) At least one of those days, I stop by Panera and get a cinnamon crunch bagel for my hubby, an asaigo cheese one for me, chocolate chip cookies for two kids and a cinnamon roll for the other. And always a cup of their fresh-squeezed OJ to drink on the way home. They love to see me walk in the door, and while they're busy eating, I stumble into my bedroom to sleep!

  10. Weekday mornings are usually busier. Weekend mornings start a bit later, and are usually more laid back. More time to cook...and enjoy :)

  11. Usually on a weekend my 4 y.o. son and I make a simple breakfast bread with raisins, candied ginger, and pineapple. He measures the flour very carefully and reminds me to put in the baking powder and a pinch of salt. He always begs for a taste of sugar (which I always decline). He also gets to mix- his favorite part. He also loves to grease the bread pan and most of all he loves to lick the spoon afterwards. The only thing is he can never wait for it to bake or cool down- he is ready to eat as soon as it gets in the oven.

  17. During the week it's pretty much the same, cereal or toast, muffin, something simple. On the weekend however we do like to make something bigger. Pancakes or homemade waffles are a favorite, so are what my kids like to call a farmhouse buffet. We make a big batch of scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, bacon and toast. Everything goes on the table at once and for some reason the kids really enjoy that! :) Thank you for hosting this giveaway, very nice of you :)

  24. We usually sleep a little later on the weekends. I like to make something for breakfast and then eat it in bed - even if it is a bowl or cereal or peanut butter toast. I also love pancakes! If we leave early to run errands, we might stop at Einsten Bros. for a bagel or Chick-Fil-A for a chicken biscuit. Yum!

  25. We actually sit down together on the weekends to eat brunch. During the week it is too insane and that way we have more time to enjoy each other's company.

  26. Weekends are the only day of the week we actually have breakfast together. During the week there's little time for everyone to sit around and eat since we're all running around trying to get ready to go to work or school. However, on the weekend, the pace is slower and we MAKE time to spend time together.

  27. We live a little on the unhealthy side too!
We make choc chip pancakes, french toast...coffee's with yummy flavorings!
    And bacon!
    Yea....we love weekends!

  28. I love to bake on the weekends (when it's not too hot!) - some fresh muffins or scones really make the weekends special!

    ReplyDelete
  29. We take the time to make a larger breakfast than we do on the weekdays! That usually means a big batch of pancakes and/or french toast and accompaniments. Everyone sits around the table together to enjoy the meal!

Other weekends we leave it to my daughter to amaze us with her Pillsbury orange rolls.

  95. I like to eat pretty healthy during the week: For breakfast I make a yogurt parfait to enjoy at work - lowfat vanilla yogurt, frozen raspberries (which thaw by my break) and healthy homemade granola. On the weekend, I change it up with a breakfast sandwich consisting of a toasted/buttered english muffin, scrambled eggs with some roasted garlic and a slice of sharp cheddar. Don't forget the coffee! :)
